About my Art:

A love of colour, design and nature has always driven my creative endeavours. As a child I constantly drew and painted the natural world around me. I always knew that being an artist was my ‘calling’.

In the 1990s, I undertook studies in Visual Arts and Design, and completed a Bachelor of Visual Arts, majoring in Illustration. My favourite media to work with at this stage was gouache and acrylic paint.

After graduation, I worked as a freelance Illustrator for government agencies and private organisations. My speciality was Botanical and Wildlife Illustration. I completed many pen & ink drawings and paintings for use on visitor signage, books and brochures.

Since than, I’ve gained more skills and knowledge in Graphic Design, especially with the use of Adobe Illustrator and Photoshop. I love being able to create vector illustrations - their clean crisp lines, colour reproduction, and ability to be resized, produce beautiful images.

The process I use to create a digital artwork involves the following: research & photos about the subject matter leads to ideas and pencil sketches. These sketches are then hand painted with gouache and called colour studies. The colour studies are scanned into the computer, and I’m then able to draw the image and colourize it. This takes a little bit of work but it’s well worth it. I really enjoy this creative process.

My art is about capturing the essence of my subjects with simplified colours and shapes that are interconnected and harmonious in their relationships.
